Carey Ann | Blank Slate Photography by Carey is now scheduling "IN-STUDIO" Easter sessions.
COST: $99 plus tax (credit card and/or cash accepted - no checks please)
RSVP: Session fees are due at the time of booking and once paid, session is confirmed. All paid session fees are "non-refundable", however, if rescheduling or cancellation is needed, funds may be applied toward the cost of a future session.
SESSION INCLUDES:
- a 30-minute sitting
- 5 complimentary, fully-edited digital images (additional images available, sold separately)
- an array of print packages to choose from; cost of print products and additional digitals are due at the time of ordering
Due to limited shooting space, these sessions are best suited for one (1) child per sitting; a second sibling may be included, however, not guaranteed. Also, these sessions are best suited for babies, toddlers & early elementary years. Babies will need to be able to sit up on their own. I can't believe it has been almost a year since I featured Miss Olivia's newborn portraits and now, I'm shooting her First Birthday !!! Before Miss Olivia was born, I was chosen to photograph her parents' maternity photos, then Olivia's newborn photos, and now this huge milestone, her "first" birthday!
Just within the last couple of weeks, Olivia has learned to walk and we could barely keep her still long enough to take her photos -- she was practically running circles around us all but with her mom and grandma's help, we were able to capture some of the cutest photos ever !!! Her mom and I also had a blast decorating for the Cake Smash portion of the photo shoot, it was Pink Overload ! And, Olivia's favorite part, that deliciously sweet cake her mama made ... so let's wish Miss Olivia a "Very Special First Birthday" and LET HER EAT CAKE !

Thank you to Tyra for an amazing Career Portrait Session !!! Truly, it was a pleasure to shoot with Tyra and without a doubt, we were able to capture an array of beautiful portraits, perfect for her real estate business brand - "Tyra Baxter Properties".
Both Tyra and I met through our real estate brokerage firm, JLA Realty, and quickly became friends. Not only are we both new, up-and-coming realtors, but we are also both creative artists. Tyra is a talented, freelance illustrator who studied at the Art Institute of Houston and is currently working with other realtors in our networking circle and creating hand-drawn, custom home portraits for real estate clients.

For Tyra's session, we decided to shoot most of her career headshots in my home studio. And, for her editorial-styled portraits, we bravely endured the Texas heat and ventured outdoors to shoot on-location at Vintage Park.

Liza Beth and Leroy wanted to include part of Houston's iconic landscapes into their session and what better locations than Houston's Greg D. Hines Waterwall Park and the Museum of Fine Art's Cullen Sculpture Garden. All three of us are transplants and not from Houston, so this was our first time visiting both places. We were extremely pleased with the choices and if you have a chance to take in these sites, I highly recommend it -- perfect for a summer evening stroll with that special someone.
At the shoot, it was the first time I met Leroy and while I was getting to know him and shooting with them both, I knew right away these two were made for each other, they have that crazy-cute-couple-giddiness about them and I can tell they are both head over heals in love.
Since it had been sometime since I had seen Liza Beth and was just meeting Leroy for the first time, I wanted to know more about how they both met and got engaged -- here is their Love Story ...
In 2010, Liza Beth and Leroy met and quickly fell in L O V E -- Liza Beth says it was Leroy's cooking that actually won her heart first. They met while working together and almost immediately, the two became the best of friends. To this day, they both spend all their quality time together and love to stay active.
Their shared hobbies include rock climbing, running, long walks at the lake with their dogs, concerts, shopping and exploring the City. They also consider themselves "foodies" and love tasting new foods, and Leroy is quite the cook. Liza Beth also says they enjoy binging on their favorite TV shows and watching "nerdy" movies such as Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and the Marvels. Liza Beth says, they simply prefer to just chill out over good food and drinks, and try to vacation whenever possible. As a matter of fact, they both just got back from a birthday trip to the sandy beaches of South Padres Island, Texas.
And, after my own curiosity and yes, lurking on Leroy's Facebook (like any good aunt would do), I quickly discovered Leroy and I have something in common, finally a fellow Thronie (aka, Game of Thrones fan) !!! This confirms my initial thoughts ... he's perfect for Liza Beth.
On July 25th, their 5th year dating anniversary, they came home after a long day at work, got in their cozy pajamas and exchanged anniversary gifts. She gave him a Coach wallet and he gave her a ring! Leroy opened the ring box and popped the question, he completely caught Liza Beth off guard but of course, she wholeheartedly said YES!
Liza Beth says, after 6 years of dating, they are finally getting married and that she couldn't be prouder, she can't wait to marry her best friend and "steal his last name". She says, "I love Leroy more than anything" and on April 22, 2017 on South Padre Island, Texas, she will get to prove just that when the two finally become one -- Mr. and Mrs. Leroy and Liza Beth Garza.

IN-STUDIO SESSIONS
In-Studio sessions are shot in Carey Ann's home studio, however, if you have an office staff of 5 or more who are interested, she can travel and setup to shoot at your office location. For in-studio sessions, Carey Ann uses her studio lighting and custom backdrops (white, black, egg shell and gray). If your office has great window lighting in your conference, meeting or waiting areas, she can shoot in these areas as well using natural lighting and posing techniques -- mix it up, it's the client's choice.
OUTDOOR, ON-LOCATION SESSIONS
For outdoor, on-location sessions, Carey Ann will work with you to plan and coordinate a personalized session package coordinated just for you at a mutually convenient time, date and outdoor locale.

ABOUT ME
Currently, I am a "boutique" photographer who shoots an array of photography genres to include weddings and portraits. As a growing photographer, I continue to build my client base and network regularly with other talented photographers in my area. Since I am still in the initial stages of building the wedding side of my business, I have branched out independently to assist and second shoot for other wedding photographers who can benefit from my experience ... and vice versa.
WHY HIRE ME
Why hire me to assist or second shoot? For several reasons, but mainly for my ability to deliver quality and emotionally, story driven photographs. As the industry of photography, especially wedding photography, continues to grow, so should we as photographers and we should take that extra initiative to learn as much as we can from each other. As a second shooter or even as an assistant, I get to learn different techniques and shooting styles, not to mention some wedding day challenges I might not yet have experienced, all the while getting to share what I know, too - a great benefit for everyone in the mix.
Not all weddings are the same, however, I am extremely familiar with the flow of a traditional wedding and more than able to jump in with both feet. For those less than traditional weddings, I am an excellent communicator and pride myself on getting to know just what each primary photographer's needs and expectations are, and coordinate with them to make sure everything about that day runs smoothly. I have a background of working well under pressure and major time constraints, so my friendly smile and personality comes in handy when we work together as a team to deliver and make the client HAPPY!
From arriving early to assist with equipment packing/unpacking; lighting setups; shooting the venue, details, pre-ceremony prep, ceremony and reception backup; wedding party roundup and formals; backing up and/or culling images, ETC., I've got you covered.
EQUIPMENT
My experience is as a Canon shooter with a mix of lenses. As for lighting, I am experienced with both on and off camera flash and lighting techniques using speedlites and stobes. Also, you have the option to hire me to shoot with my equipment and/or with yours. Currently, my available equipment includes:
- Canon 5D Mark II
- Canon 7D
- Canon 70-200mm 2.8 IS
- Sigma 35mm 1.4
- Canon 50mm 1.4
- Canon 85mm 1.8
- Multiple Speedlites
- CF Cards (prefer to shoot with primary's cards, however, I do have my own ranging in 4 to 16 gbs)
RATES
My rates are negotiable depending on dates, time and location, however, I do require a minimum of 4 hours of service. Depending on location, a minimal travel fee may be necessary.
- Wedding Assistant - $15-20 hr. depending on primary's needs
- Wedding Second Shooter - $45 hr. (w/my equipment) or $35 hr. (w/your equipment)

What a pleasure it was to get to photograph this sweet little princess' newborn portraits - Welcome Miss Avery !! At two weeks old, she was absolutely adorable and definitely a natural in front of the camera. Little Avery was quite the curious one and wanted to be awake almost the entire time and enjoy every minute of our entire session, and according to mom, happily slept the whole next day!
As first time parents, Avery's mom and dad are amazing with her and extremely blessed with such a beautiful family. She's going to definitely be a "daddy's girl" and loved "to the moon & back" (and them some)! I can't wait to shoot with Ms. Avery and her family again in a few months.

"What To Wear" - Wardrobe Styling
We believe that the photo session should be all about you and your personal style. At Blank Slate, we like to keep portraits natural and simple, focusing on the person, not the clothes.
When choosing what to wear, coordinate a wardrobe with solid colors, staying clear of crazy, bold prints and patterns. Always keep in mind the weather, your location and the photo setting when choosing your fashion style. If you have hats, props or anything sentimental you would like to use in your photos, don’t forget to bring them along.
- For families, simply try to coordinate your clothes so that everyone blends well together and compliments each other, again choosing solid colors and minimal prints and patterns. Most importantly, we ask that everyone be prepared and dressed prior to the session. These are full-body type portraits so consider your outfits from head to toe.
- For newborns, no wardrobe at all ! The best photos are those naked and swaddled in a sweet, cozy blanket. Accenting your baby’s photos with colorful blankets, cocoons, cloths, hats, or hair accessories is just about all we will need, and Blank Slate has a ton to choose from. If you prefer a diaper, we recommend a stylish diaper cover, plain or ruffled. ETSY.com is fab for hats, accessories and wraps.
- For children and babies, solid colors with cute and colorful accessories are perfect. Hats, scarves, tutus, jackets, etc., but most of all think of comfort. We want to keep them as natural and comfortable as possible so that their cute personalities shine through, and definitely keep the weather in mind.
- For maternity, comfort is key. Flowing dresses, button-down shirts, tops, sweaters, comfy jeans, flowing fabric, etc., just as long as we are able to expose mommy’s belly easily and comfortably. This session should reflect and flatter your personal style and capture this special occasion for a lifetime.
- For high school seniors, whatever you want that will reflect the stylish and fun you! During your session, you will have enough time to change several times, so choose outfits that make a statement about you, your personality and your interests. I have a whole board dedicated to fashion and posing ideas, and styling and inspirational tips on my Pinterest page.
- For boudoir, choose 3 to 4 of your favorite lingerie items or simply something you are most comfortable wearing and that you feel the most beautiful inside-out, maybe even something special for his or her eyes only, and don’t forget the accessories. The option for personal styling, hair and makeup is available.

Scheduling Your Session
The creative fee
Our creative fees vary and depend on the specifics of your session, or event, and cover our photographer’s time, talent, travel, equipment and post-image processing. Professional prints, products and digital image packages are priced and sold separately and are not included in the creative fee.
Scheduling your session
We encourage all of our clients to schedule their photo sessions as far in advance as possible. For those clients who wish to reserve Blank Slate for special event photography, the sooner you schedule the better.
All sessions are reserved with a $150 non-refundable retainer which is later applied toward the cost of your session. Final payment is due at the time of your photo session. If travel is involved or if the event falls shortly after scheduling, full payment in advance may be required. Weddings are the exception.
We offer several convenient payment methods and plans to fit our client's budgets. Cash, Credit Card and PayPal are accepted.
For all prints and product orders, payment is due at the time of placing your order.
The consultation
An initial consultation is scheduled with each of our clients prior to the photo session so that we can get better acquainted and to discuss the client's session ideas, expectations and preparation tips. The initial consultation also gives us the chance to discuss custom packages, location choices, wardrobe options and styling ideas. A model/client release will also be provided at the initial consultation.

One of the most important details when planning your session is choosing a location; where exactly you want to take your photos. Whether it is on-location or in the comfort of your own home, Blank Slate will coordinate that right location just for you.
On-location sessions
Our on-location sessions are coordinated and designed using natural lighting techniques and simplistic backgrounds. Here are a few on-location suggestions:

Studio sessions
All studio sessions are by appointment only and scheduled Tuesday through Saturday. We offer both natural and studio lighting for our tailored and styled sessions.
Your Images
Blank Slate clients can expect to view their “proofs” within just a few days of your session via our private, online viewing album.
All Blank Slate images are stored up to 14-days for convenient ordering and then archived for up to three (3) months. Due to limited archival storage space, images are deleted after three (3) months (with the exception of weddings).
For weddings, please allow 4-6 weeks to coordinate your images and to prepare for post-image processing. Due to the volume of images, this process does require additional time and special attention. Images are archived for up to one (1) year.

I tend to find beauty and inspiration everywhere -- I love music, art and nature, and tend to draw inspiration from those things in my life that move me the most ... sometimes, I find inspiration in the simplest of things.
Once inspired, my mission is to provide clients with not only beautiful images, but also provide them with a memorable experience. I've yet to meet a client that has not become a friend and when I am able to reflect my clients' personalities and life stories in their images, I am over the moon!
My passion for photography is what drives me to be better today than I was yesterday, and I am thankful for those in my life that lead me there and who continually open my eyes to new beginnings and challenges. When I am not shooting, I also enjoy creative writing, graphic arts and spending time with my daughters and granddaughter !

One lucky couple will receive a complimentary engagement session that includes a 20-digital image package, a half-day dedicated to telling me your love story and shooting at your favorite location(s) in the Houston or San Antonio, Texas area, and an online, viewing album of your images to share with family and friends.
